Theories that have overcome obstacles

When scientists first suggest a theory, not all people in society agree with it. Scientific theories are often scrutinised and not accepted by many different groups in society - often because they contradict (go against) a person's cultural or religious beliefs.
We already know a lot about the theory of evolution - many people still do not accept this theory. There are some others theories that also caused controversy and had to overcome obstacles when they were first introduced by scientists - these include the germ theory, the theory of plate tectonics, the atomic theory, and the heliocentric model of the solar system.

ACTIVITIES:
Research ONE of the theories from the list below. Describe what the theory is. Explain why the theory faced scrutiny (was not accepted) from particular groups in society. Describe if society accepts the theory today. You only need to write 2-3 paragraphs.
POST your paragraphs on the discussion for this page and also make sure you save your own copy of your work and have it in your book or OneNote.
